Gholtogh
During the winter months, the farming population living in the southern Sandjan region knots robust, geometrically patterned Sandjan carpets. A Kurd ethnic group has been knotting these predominately dark medallion carpets for centuries. The firm knot weave and fine pile are representative of this carpet category. As with all other peasant carpets, Sandjan carpets are only woven in small sizes ranging from 90 x 60 cm to approx. 200 x 120 cm and as runner rugs. The required amount of living space is not available for weaving larger carpets.
