Moud carpets were originally similar to today’s Mashad, i.e., knotted weaves with floral patterns. Both cities are located in in the Khorrassan provenience (place of origin).
As a result of commissioned work in the 1930’s, Moud carpets adapted and continued Herati ornamentation, which is popular today. Moud carpets exhibit the popular garden motif (also called fields motif) in addition to the characteristic medallion and the repetitive Herati design. Knot densities range from 160,000 up to 350,000 knots per square meter.
