Description
Bidjar with silk
Bidjar is a province in the northwest of Iran, where mostly Kurdish nomads and semi-nomads live. The Bidjar carpets are almost exclusively made in traditional home work, relatively often by men, as more strength than usual is needed for the firm knotting. The Bidjar carpet is one of the most popular oriental carpets today. It is characterised by its thickness, durability and timelessness. A particularly fine quality is the Bidjar carpet with silk, here the contours of the individual motifs are backed with silk. The silk reflects the incidence of light more strongly than the wool, giving the carpet a noble sheen. In Persian, this carpet is called Gol Abrisham, which translates as flower and silk.
