Gabbeh

Description

Gabbeh

Gabbeh carpets are made from hand-spun wool and originate from the southern regions of Persia, particularly the Fars province. They are traditionally knotted by nomadic tribes as well as by formerly nomadic communities who have since settled. The wool from local sheep gives these carpets their natural sheen and a soft, supple texture.A defining feature of Gabbeh carpets is their wide range of designs: they vary from simple, minimalist compositions to colorful and vibrant patterns. The motifs are created freely from the imagination of the weavers and do not follow fixed templates. They often reflect impressions of nature or personal experiences from the weavers’ social environment.
