Description
Isfahan silk warp
An Isfahan carpet is one of the finest and most valuable of all Persian carpets. A genuine hand-knotted Isfahan can be recognised by the so-called khefts: differently coloured warp thread markings at even intervals on the kilim underside of the carpet fringes. There are 100 warp threads between each kheft mark. Typical of Isfahan (Persian: Is-faa-han) is the use of warp threads made of silk. Many Isfahan carpets bear the signature of the pattern designer or that of the master weaver.
