Description
Sarouk
Sarouk rugs are very popular in many countries around the world. Numerous different patterns make this genre so popular. The vast area around the trading city of Arak, which is home to the towns and villages of Sarouk, Jozan, Mahal, Ghiassabad, Wiss and Malayer, among others, has been a weaving centre for centuries and many historical weaving epochs originated here.
Around 100 years ago, many large-format carpets were knotted for American customers; the style was characteristic: lushly floral, without medallions and mostly rust brown or dark blue. The pile was exceptionally soft. Later, around 1970, these carpets were re-imported to Europe and are still known today as American Sarouk.
