Tabriz 50raj

Description

Tabriz 50raj

Tabriz carpets have a long tradition. Many patterns and qualities are woven in this famous city. Typical for the quality of Tabriz carpets is the use of a very fine yarn.An even and accurate weave with a Turkish knot is characteristic of the feel, as is the flat and very evenly sheared pile. Raj is the unit of measurement of the quality levels of all Tabriz carpets. It indicates the number of knots on a width of 7 cm.For example, 50raj stands for 50 knots on a length of about 7 cm. Since it is an ancient unit of measurement that varies within regions, slight variations of about 10 per cent are common.Basic floral patterns are the dominant designs of these Persian carpets - in a variety of pattern types and colour schemes. Fine Persian carpets, such as these from Tabriz, are often woven on a silk warp.
