Carpet Care
Oriental carpets are very robust and easy to take care of. Over time, they develop a beautiful patina that makes the carpet even more valuable and unique. Nevertheless, we would like to give you some tips to help you enjoy your carpet for a long time.
An oriental carpet can be cleaned very well with the vacuum cleaner. It is important that you vacuum the carpet in the direction of the pile so that the sheen is preserved. You can determine the direction of the pile by swiping your hand across the carpet. If it feels soft, that is the direction of the pile. It will feel rough in the opposite direction. By the way, beating the rug is not recommended because you could damage the knots in the process.
We recommend turning the carpet 180 degrees from time to time. This way you avoid unsightly pressure points caused by furniture and one-sided wear caused by walking on the carpet in the same places. Turning the carpet will also prevent fading caused by sunlight. Remove pressure points caused by furniture by placing a damp rag on the spot and swiping it with an iron in the pile’s direction.
Stains should be removed as soon as possible before they get stuck in the carpet. Try to pick up liquids with a spoon, otherwise you should carefully dab with a clean cloth – don't rub. Depending on the stain, you may also use cold water or some detergent. For stubborn stains, retail stores offer special cleaning products for carpets; however, we recommend professional cleaning to protect the carpet’s fabric.
During professional carpet cleaning, the carpet is skillfully washed and dried; the pile straightens up again and the old luster and colors are restored. When selecting the cleaning company, make sure that it is endorsed by or a member of a professional organization so that you do not fall prey to dubious providers. You will need to budget around 30-40 euros per square meter for professional carpet cleaning. You should have a carpet cleaned every 10 to 12 years depending on how dirty it is.
